Carol Cronquist, 62, former catalog librarian at Ashland University, died Oct. 15 at home from complications of Type 1 Diabetes.

She was born on Feb. 26, 1947 in Galion, to Robert and Olive Andrews Jr.

She graduated from Ashland College and received a Master of Arts degree in English from Cleveland State University and a Master of Science in Library Science degree from Case Western Reserve University.

Before her employment at Ashland University in 1983, she taught English at Cleveland Heights High School and earlier was employed as a feature writer for the Mansfield News Journal. She also taught English as an adjunct instructor at Ashland University for many years.

She played clarinet in the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra in the early 1970’s as well as in the Lakeside Symphony Orchestra, and was formerly married to the conductor, Robert Cronquist. She maintained a life-long interest in classical music and was a Cleveland Orchestra subscriber for three decades.

While at Ashland University, she published several articles on the nineteenth century British artist, Henry Courtney Selous. Her commentary on Selous’ career as a painter of panoramas was published in the prestigious British arts journal APOLLO, and her annotated transcription of Selous’ diary of 1833-34 is held by the National Art Library of the Victoria and Albert museum in London.

She is survived by the husband, Randolph Stein; sister and brother-in-law, Pat and David Glenn of Galion; nephew Brian and Amy Glenn of Mansfield; and niece Sarah, Richard and Addison Briggs of Cleveland.

There will be no visitation or services at this time.

The Cleveland Memorial Society is in charge of arrangements.

Carol was Bob Cronquist's second wife; he was widowed before that. KBB
